Iraq Parliament Speaker Salim Jabouri affirmed Saturday that the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) does not represent the Arab Muslim Sunnis in any way.
During his meeting with President of the Kurdistan Region Massoud Barzani, the Iraqi top lawmaker said large numbers of Arabs suffered injustice and maltreatment at the hands of the ISIL militants and were forced to flee their homes to Kurdistan.
He accused ISIL of putting in peril the safety of lives and property of the citizens, as well as the Iraqi social fabric through undermining coexistence among various segments of people.
Jabouri expressed solidarity with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) authorities in their fight against the ISIL, according to a statement by the KRG.
On his part, President Barzani reaffirmed commitment of the Kurdish people to protect the safety of the Iraqis who fled their homes to Kurdistan.
However, he criticized the stance of Arab tribesmen in some villages near Mosul, north Iraq, who pledged allegiance to the ISIL.
Barzani stressed the need to maintain the cordial ties and coexistence among all components of the Iraqi society.
