Al-Azhar Grand Imam Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayyeb underlined that Islam did not command people to kill or damage facilities as committed by some terrorists organizations.
El-Tayyeb's remark came during his meeting with Canadian Ambassador to Egypt Troy Lulashnyk.
The two sides discussed means of promoting cooperation between Al-Azhar and Canada in the cultural and scientific fields.
He further said that Al-Azhar's role is to spread the moderate teachings of Islam.
For his part, Lulashnyk offered his heartfelt condolences to el-Tayyeb over the martyrs of the Armed Forces who were killed by terrorist attacks in Sinai on Friday.
He said also that his government appreciates the efforts of el-Tayyeb in supporting stability and peace.
