Islamic State (ISIL) militants have taken control of Tel Shair hill, located in the western outskirts of the Kurdish-populated city of Kobani in northern Syria, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said Thursday.
Capturing Tal Shair hill would enable ISIL fighters to take control of the western outskirts and besiege Kobani from three sides; east, west, and south, SOHR said in a press statement.
Meanwhile, clashes continue between ISIL militants and Kurdish forces of the People's Protection Units (YPG) north of the governmental security square and vicinity of Al-Hurrya Square, the statement said, noting that ISIL militants have attempted to advance towards south of Kobani.
