The Iraqi government welcomed on Saturday the decision of the international coalition to deploy military experts to train and rehabilitate the Iraqi army.
"Though late a little bit, the decision is a crucial step in the right direction towards helping the Iraqi army in the combat against the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL)," according to an official press release.
The statement noted that the Iraqi government had asked the international coalition months ago to contribute to the rebuilding of the army, noting that four or five locations in Baghdad and Irbil have been allocated to training camps.
The statement followed the US decision to send 1,500 more non-combat troops to Iraq to contribute to the compaign against the ISIL militants, thus doubling the US military presence in the country.
