Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi held talks with visiting Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop on Saturday on international war against ISIL, security and political developments in the region.
Iraq is in war against the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (ISIL) and needs international support in domains of expertise, armament and training for Iraqi forces to defeat the terrorist groups, a statement by Al-Abadi's office quoted him as saying.
He said the international community should actively engage with Iraq and boost its efforts to crack down on ISIL "which has been a threat to international peace and all countries." Bishop said Iraq should not be left alone in its war against ISIL, and Australia was ready to help Iraq in its fight.
