Honouring Kuwaiti emir as humanitarian leader historic day

Secretary General of the Manpower and Government Restructuring Program (MGRP) Fawzi Al-Majdali said Sunday the UN honoring of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as Humanitarian Leader is a historic day and a bright page in the country's history.
"Through his wisdom and achievements in humanitarian action at the local, regional and international levels, His Highness the Amir was deservedly entitled to this recognition from the world's most prestigious pulpit - the UN which also recognized Kuwait as international humanitarian capital," Al-Majdali told reporters.
"Thanks to his wisdom and diplomatic finesse, His Highness the Amir was able to settle a lot of disputes among different countries and alleviate the adverse impacts of natural and man-made disasters across the world," he pointed out.
On the MGRP action, Al-Majdali noted that there is a growing cooperation between the Program and the citizens, particularly the job applicants, in the field of promoting the national workforce in the private sector at the behest of His Highness the Amir "who materializes the fatherly spirit in the ruler-ruled relationship." He recalled the statement of His Highness the Amir last month that "the true wealth of the country lies in the youths -- and we will spare no effort in supporting them morally and materially.
"The efforts of His Highness the Amir in the philanthropic, humanitarian and development domains are a source of pride for all the sons of Kuwait," he went on, noting that the UN recognition represents a source of inspiration for the Kuwaiti youths in terms of how to contribute in a civilized way to the progress and welfare of humanity.
"Under His Highness the Amir's initiative, the First Arab Economic, Social and Development Summit was held in Kuwait in December, 2009, in a bid to foster the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and the young entrepreneurs.
"The Arab leaders approved His Highness the Amir's initiative for setting up a fund for supporting the SMEs in the Arab countries with a capital of USD one billion, half of which (USD 500 million) was contributed by Kuwait," Al-Majdali pointed out.
"His Highness the Amir used his good offices in settling several disputes among different countries; thus preventing bloodshed and saving scores of lives.
"His efforts in helping disaster-hit people, alleviating poverty and promoting socio-economic development are self-evident around the globe," he added.
The State of Kuwait has a long history in the humanitarian and relief efforts and has world-renowned agencies in this domain such as Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) and Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS), he concluded.
The UN is setting the stage for a ceremony to honor His Highness the Amir as Humanitarian Leader and Kuwait as Humanitarian center on Tuesday, September 9.
