Hamas expects to raise enough funds for Gaza reconstruction

Hamas officials called on donors in the conference held in Cairo on Sunday to guarantee the needed amount of cash for starting the process of reconstruction in the Gaza Strip.
Ismail Haneya, deputy chief of the Islamic Hamas movement, said in an emailed press statement that the Palestinians "look forward to seeing the current donors' conference and its recommendations are different from previous aid conferences."
"Unfortunately, the Gaza Strip hasn't received any money for reconstruction after pledges made in two previous conferences," said Haneya, stressing that "money this time has to flood to start what the occupation (Israel) destroyed."
With participation of foreign ministers of 50 countries, representatives of regional and international organizations, a Norwegian-sponsored donors' conference is currently held in Cairo for gathering cash to build up the Gaza Strip.
The donors' conference aims at gathering 4 billion U.S. dollars, which will be used in building up thousands of houses which were either completely destroyed or partially damaged.
"We are not beggars, but our people presented sacrifices and it is the international community's responsibility to build up the destroyed in Gaza," said Haneya.
