Gunmen abduct senior official in Iraqi capital

Unidentified gunmen raided the home of the head of Baghdad Provincial Council and seized the official and four of his guards, a police source said on Saturday.
The incident occurred on Friday night when armed men in security uniforms stormed the house of Riyadh al-Adhadh in the Sunni district of Adhamiyah in the northern part of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The gunmen, who claimed they were doing their duty, detained al- Adhadh and his guards and took them to an unknown destination, the source said.
The Iraqi security forces have launched a probe into the incident as no security forces was officially ordered to seize al- Adhadh, the source added.
Al-Adhadh, from Mutahidoun political bloc led by the former Sunni speaker Osama al-Nujaifi, was elected as the chairman of Baghdad Provincial Council in June 2013.
More than two years ago, Adhadh was detained under charges of terrorism but was set free months later after he was cleared by a court.
