Sharjah - Arab Today

The University of Sharjah, UoS, has received a delegation from the General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology of Dubai Police.

The visit aims to inform students of scientific disciplines from colleges of science and medicine in UoS on the nature and progress of approved laboratory and scientific procedures, through a lecture series provided by forensic science and criminology experts at Dubai Police.

The delegation included Assistant Chemical Expert, Second Lieutenant Mohammed Abdul Qadir Al-Shamsi, Assistant Chemical Expert, Second Lieutenant Ibrahim Al-Haj Khadim Al-Maydoor, Assistant DNA Biologist, Reem Matar Al Mazyana Al-Muheiri, and Assistant Chemical Expert, Aisha Ali bin Tamim.

During the lectures, the delegation gave an overview of the establishment of the forensic science building in 1989 and later the establishment and inauguration of the current state-of-the-art building in 2015, and the awards and achievements the Department has received. It also gave a brief description of the cutting-edge technologies implemented in Dubai Police, services offered to the public, the scientific qualifications of the General Department’s staff, including Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD programmes in various forensic, natural and engineering sciences, and cooperation between the department and local and foreign authorities.

The delegation outlined the scientific and forensic sub-departments at the General Department, in terms of the staff and nature of work. It also presented some of the implemented techniques and key cases each sub-department has faced.
