
Officials of fatwa and legislation departments in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states are convening in Kuwait Sunday and Monday to discuss proposals to expand cooperation with a view to reaching full legal and legislative integration.
"The meeting of the standing committee of the GCC fatwa and legislation departments aim to materialize GCC leaders' vision of achieving full integration among member states in all domains as a prelude to unity," Head of Kuwait's Fatwa and Legislation Department Salah Al-Musaad told reporters on the sidelines of the Ninth meeting of the GCC standing committee, kicked off here Sunday.
He pointed out that the two-day meeting tackles a wide-array of issues relevant to the efforts exerted to unify legal and legislative terminology and procedures in the GCC states to pave the way for legislative integration.
The meeting's agenda also features issues of protecting cultural property and human heritage, compiling a book on all unified GCC agreements and laws and preparing a glossary for GCC legal and legislative terminology.
On Sunday, a workshop on laws writing and revision was held on the sideline of the main meeting.
Heads of fatwa and legislation departments would convene Monday to thoroughly discuss and approve the proposed resolutions and recommendations.
For her part, Undersecretary of Jurisprudence Section at Kuwait Fatwa and Legislation Department and Head of Kuwait's Delegation to the GCC standing committee meeting Hoda Al-Shaygi said that the meeting seeks to strengthening cooperation among GCC legal bodies.
It also aims to coordinate and unify the GCC stances at regional and international legal events, she said.
