Former mufti of Egypt Dr. Ali Gomaa
Cairo - Arab Today

Former mufti of Egypt Dr. Ali Gomaa has survived an attempt on his life on Friday.

Two gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire at Gomaa as he was entering a mosque in the 6th of October City to perform Friday congregational prayers, a security source told MENA.

His bodyguard was slightly injured, the source said.

The two gunmen fled the scene.

Interior Minister Magdy Abdel Ghaffar formed an investigation team to quickly determine the identities of the gunmen and arrest them, the source further said.

Checkpoints have been set up in the vicinity of the area of the attack, the source added.
