Chief of National Police (DGSN), Major General Abdelghani Hamel underlined Tuesday in Algiers that the fight against organized crime and terrorism are Algeria’s “main concern”, given their threat to the safety of people and stability of countries.
In his speech at the opening of a seminar on the fight against organized crime, Hamel underlined that “the events which are taking place in the world, particularly in our region or the regions not far from us, i.e. in the Mediterranean, Maghreb, Sahel, African and Middle Eastern regions, give us an outline of the alarming evolution of organized crime and terrorism.”
“Undoubtedly, we give the same interest to the issues that occurred in our neighbourhood, even if we do not sometimes perceive them from the same angle, however our conviction is the same: the fight against organized crime and terrorism remain the main concern, given their threat to the safety of people and the stability of the countries,” he said.
“ We are facing a lot of threats, particularly those relating to terrorism, illicit trafficking of arms and drugs and illegal immigration,” added Major General Hamel, underlining “the evolution of cybercrime, as well as the financial challenges and money laundering.”
Hamel said that the national strategy to fight organized crime, which “was gradually adapted to the international mechanisms, is based on legal, regulatory and operational dimensions.”
