Families of troops held by militants block roads

Families and relatives and supporters of a number of Lebanese Army troops and security personnel, held as hostages by Islamic militants, blocked several roads in Lebanon on Monday in a bid to pressure the government to exert greater efforts to win their freedom.
The official National News Agency (NNA) said the protesters blockaded the streets and roads with piles of dirt, burning tires and other obstacles. Similar actions were reported in the Shouf mountains southeast of Beirut and the eastern Bekaa Valley.
Some 30 army troops and members of the International Security Force were taken as prisoners by opposition Syrian gunmen after a firefight with the Lebanese Army in the eastern town of Arsal early this month. Five of the prisoners were set free two days ago.
The kidnappers are demanding that the Lebanese Government free prisoners, affiliated to Islamic groups. (end) ayb.rk
