ERC starts 3rd phase of Rohingya Relief Programme in Bangladesh
Abu Dhabi - Arab Today

The Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, has embarked on the 3rd phase of its Rohingya Relief Programme in Bangladesh as per the directives of the country's wise leadership and the follow-up of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region and ERC Chairman.

The phase envisages the distribution of 14,000 food parcels to more than 70,000 refugees living in camps across the city of Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, in addition to clothes, hygiene material and water well-drilling tools.

An ERC delegation recently arrived in Dhaka to lead the organisation's operations and conduct on-site inspection of the refugees' living conditions and ensure immediate response to their suffering.

"The ERC operations are closely followed up by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan and fit within the context of the country's directives on the issue of refugees fleeing Myanmar as a result of the escalating violence there," said Dr. Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi, ERC Secretary-General, noting that the UAE has always been responding to the suffering of all world refugees by sending direct aid and supporting regional and international refugees organisations.

Bangladesh has received until now more than 600,000 refugees, including large numbers of women and children, from Myanmar and therefore is shouldering considerable burden, as a result of which the ERC is sparing no efforts to help official authorities there provide these refugees with better life conditions, he added.

"The ERC has always over the past years been consistently responding to a lot of humanitarian calls from relief organisations in charge of this urgent humanitarian issue," Al Falahi said, noting that the ERC has immediately moved after the onset of Rohingya crisis to extend hand of help and contributing to assuaging the untold suffering of these people after their arrival in Bangladesh.
