Emirates Airline
Dubai – XINHU

Emirates Airline of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) said on Thursday that it has retired the last Airbus A330 and A340 aircraft from its fleet, making it the first and only airline in the world to operate a fleet of all Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft for its passenger flights.

Emirates now has 85 Airbus A380 "Superjumbos" and 160 Boeing 777 aircraft.

The airline has also ordered 234 newer planes, including 150 Boeing 777X aircraft to be delivered as of 2020, the year when Dubai hosts the World Expo.

On Aug. 4, Emirates lost a Boeing 777 passenger jet flying from Thiruvananthapuram, India, to Dubai. The plane crashed during an emergency landing in Dubai International Airport, killing one firefighter during the rescue operation. All 282 passengers and 18 crew members escaped unharmed.

On Wednesday, Emirates Airline reported a 75 percent profit drop in April-September 2016, to 214 million U.S. dollars, from 849 million dollars posted in the same period last year.
