Parliamentary elections

Parliamentary Elections' nominees should deposit BD200 in the treasury of the Ministry of Justice and Islamic Affairs, while municipal ones should deposit BD 50 at the Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry's treasury, the Executive Committee of the Elections announced.
They can also deposit the nomination fees at the supervisory centres from October 15 to 19 during daily work hours, and from 05:00 p.m. to 09:00 p.m.
The panel stressed that nominees should meet all the requirements and bring all the required documents, including the receipts of the deposited amounts.
It is to be noted that according to Law 14 of 2002 and its amendments, an eligible candidate to the Council of Representatives shall meet the following requirements:
- Be a Bahrain citizen, or has gained it for 10 years.
- Enjoys full civil and political rights.
- Be registered in the voters’ list of the constituency where he/she is running.
- Has completed 30 years of age on the Elections' Day.
- Has excellent command of written and spoken Arabic.
- Has been sentenced in a felony; even if he was pardoned or rehabilitated.
- Has not been sentenced to jail in misdemeanor crimes for a period more than six months even if he was pardoned, and that is after 10 years starting from the day following the date of execution of the sentence.
- His/Her membership in the Shura Council or the Council of Representatives should not have been dropped by a council decision because of loss of trust, respect or breaching the duties of the membership. Nevertheless, whoever membership was dropped can still run for candidacy if the legislative term during which the decision was issued has elapsed, or a decision by the council in which he was a member was issued nullifying the prohibiting effect of the membership cancellation after the conclusion of the council’s session during which the membership cancellation decision was taken.
- A Bahraini citizen, and those who have gained the Bahraini citizenship for a minimum period of ten years.
- A member of the Council of Representatives shall not hold the citizenship of another state, with the exception of the citizenship of a Member State in The Gulf Cooperation Council, provided that the member be a Bahraini citizen as an original citizenship.
A municipal candidate should be a Bahraini citizens, with full political rights, has a good command of the Arabic language, registered in voters' list of his/her constituency, completed 30 years of age on the poll day.
Municipal candidates should have paid municipal fees, if any.
They should also apply with the recommendation of ten voters from the constituency which he/she is running for. The voter may not nominate more than one candidate.
