Egypt welcomed on Tuesday the decision adopted unanimously by the African Peace and Security Council earlier during a meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to unfreeze Egypt's African Union (AU) membership.
"This reflects the respect of the will of the Egyptian people, embodied by the 30th June revolution, and the implementation of the first two merits of the road map: the constitution and presidential election, that were transparent," the foreign ministry said in a statement.
While it was never absent from African continent's issues during the past period, Egypt reiterates determination to continue its historic and natural role inside the continent, added the statement.
The Egyptian ministry also said that Cairo aspires to see further deepening and development of cooperation with African countries during the next stage in various political, economic, social, and cultural fields that would attain joint goals of African people and strengthen communication ties among them
