Egypt-Sudan new border crossing fruit of Sisi, Al-Bashir meeting

Egyptian ِِِِِAmbassador in Khartoum Osama Shaltout asserted Wednesday that the inauguration of Qustul border crossing between Egypt and Sudan is a fruit of a meeting between President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his Sudanese counterpart Omar Al-Bashir in June.
Speaking to MENA in Khartoum, the Egyptian diplomat said that the new border is the result of prolonged discussions and studies since 2002.
An agreement was made to open the terminal after a meeting held between Sisi and Bashir in June in Khartoum.
The crossing will help increase the volume of trade exchange between the two countries, the ambassador said.
It will also contribute to facilitating Egyptian exports to Sudan and member states of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, he added.
The total cost of the crossing construction hit 360 million pounds, he noted.
The Egyptian army contributed 180 million pounds to the total construction costs. As many as 80 trucks will transit the border crossing daily, while it will have a parking area for some 40 trucks, the diplomat said.
