Egypt, Sudan agree to upgrade joint committee level

Egyptian President Abdelfatah Al-Sisi and his visiting Sudanese counterpart Omar Al-Bashir have agreed to develop the joint cooperation committee from the ministerial level to the presidential one.
The move, which was announced in joint press statements following their meeting in Cairo, is primarily intended to further develop and bolster joint cooperation in various fields and to serve the common interests of both Arab nations.
Al-Sisi said the visit of the Sudanese leader came at a time when there is a political and popular will to reinforce and promote bilateral cooperative ties in economic, trade and popular realms.
He said he had discussed with Al-Bashir the current regional developments, mainly the situation in Libya, and vowed to work together to ensure security and stability in this North African country.
For his part, the Sudanese president said he and the Egyptian leader shared the same views on all bilateral, regional and international issues.
He said the time came to upgrade the level of Egyptian-Sudanese relations in all fields to new horizons.
Al-Bashir pointed to both sides' firm determination to consolidate historical relations between the two neighbors, adding that the joint presidential committee would hold its maiden meeting in Cairo in order to discuss the implementation of bilateral agreements.
