The Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday condemned the continued Israeli targeting of innocent civilians in Gaza Strip, the latest of which was the shelling of an UNRWA school in the Jabaliya refugee camp.
The attack claimed the lives of at least 16 Palestinians, mainly children, and wounded dozens of others.
The ministry urged in a statement the Israeli authorities to practice self-restraint and avoid unjustifiable excessive use of force against civilians particularly children, women and elderly people.
Today's attack constitutes a serious escalation of the conflict which could lead only to deepening hatred between the Palestinians and the Israelis and block the path to the resumption of the peace talks, according to the statement.
