Dozens of Palestinian students and youth were injured Wednesday in fierce confrontations with Israeli troops near Shaafat crossing and Anata checkpoint in eastern Al-Quds.
Accompanied by Interior Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch, the troops attempted to storm the Shaafat Camp but were stopped by residents, spokesman for Fatah Thaer Fasfous said.
The residents hurled stones at the troops, Fasfous said.
Occupants of an Israeli police vehicle were also taking pictures of the area for unknown reasons, the spokesman said.
The Israeli troops fired tear gas and rubber bullets at the young protesters, Fasfous said. They also fired at al-Razi school, wounding 35 students aging between 7 and 12 years old, he added.
