CAIRO, Nov 19 (MENA) - The Cairo Criminal Court heard Wednesday prosecutors probing spy charges against former president ohamed Morsi and 35 other Muslim Brotherhood leaders.
Morsi and his co-defendants are accused of spying for foreign organizations and countries and divulging secrets about Egypt's national security.
They also face charges of working with jihadists inside and outside Egypt to carry out terrorist attacks on Egyptian soil.
Addressing the court, Counselor Khaled Diaa said the MB had managed to ferry members of the group to Gaza through secret tunnels. There, the MB members received military training organized by Hamas.
They formed a committee, aka the mission for Rafah and Arish, to manage MB movement along the Egyptian-Palestinian border, the prosecutor charged.
The committee also offered financial support for Hamas, Diaa said, adding that MB members were dispatched to Gaza under the pretext of providing support for the Palestinian people.
They held conferences to collect donations for the Palestinians but used the money to finance military activities, the prosecutor further said.
The prosecutor pointed to numerous messages between the MB group and a number of official and unofficial foreign parties.
The messages were meant to show the MB as the only organized political power in Egypt, Diaa told the court.
Such practices constitute fully-fledged spy crimes, the prosecutor concluded.
