Speaker of the Council of the Nation (Upper House of Parliament) Abdelkader Bensalah, Speaker of the People’s National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament) Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa and Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal performed Saturday morning Eid al-Adha prayer at the Grand Mosque of Algiers.
Top State officials, members of the government, representatives of political parties and civil society as well as members of Arab and Muslim diplomatic corps accredited to Algiers also performed Eid al-Adha prayer at the Grand Mosque of Algiers.
After the prayer, Bensalah, Ould Khelifa and Sellal received Eid al-Adha’s greetings from many citizens.
In the prayer’s two sermons, the imam stressed that Eid al-Adha was an opportunity for Muslims to praise God The Almighty and to perpetuate the tradition of Prophet Mohamed (PBUH) and Prophet Ibrahim El Khalil (Abraham, PBUH) who submitted to God’s will.
He stressed the values of tolerance and mutual aid of Islam, encouraging the faithful to exchange family visits.
The Imam also underlined the results of the national reconciliation initiated by President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika in terms of stability, security and development.
He also launched a call to the Arab countries which are under tension to follow the example of Algeria and adopt the path of reconciliation which is, he stressed, the only way to end fratricidal confrontations between the children of the same country.
