Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO)'s Executive Committee Secretary Dr. Saeb Erekat has praised the great efforts exerted by the Kingdom of Bahrain, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to support the Palestinian people and their just cause in all international and regional forums, noting the high appreciation and respect for the Bahraini diplomacy in the regional and international arenas.
The Palestinian official added "On behalf of President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian people I would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to the Kingdom of Bahrain for all its efforts in support of the Palestinian people and their just cause".

Speaking on the sidelines of the celebrations of the Palestinian National Day during his visit to Bahrain, Dr. Erekat said he had the honour of meeting HM the King, HRH and Prime Minister, and Bahrain's Minister Foreign Affairs.

Dr. Erekat said that Palestine enjoys lawful international status as an Observer Member of the United Nations and has the right to join international organizations such as UNESCO and other international organizations.

He also said "I had the privilege to listen to a series of important instructions and tips from His Majesty the King, along with the King's guidance in dealing with the region and the peace process."

He added "We promote and embody on a daily basis the legal status of the State of Palestine and its status as an Observer State" in the hope that Palestine will get the full membership of the United Nations, noting that Palestine is now an occupied country as had been the case with countries like Norway, Belgium, Holland, France, Korea and the Philippines during World War II, and we are actively seeking to launch the independent of Palestinian State having its full sovereignty on its land and to have Jerusalem as its capital.
