The Ministry of Foreign Affairs tonight launched the Kingdom of Bahrain report on implementing the recommendations of the Universal Periodic Review of Human Rights, attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Abdulla Abdullatif Abdulla, in line with Bahrain’s 2012 voluntary commitment to present a report to the Human Rights Council.
The report contained the recommendations that had been accepted as well as the measures that had been taken over the past two years to implement them.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary expressed the keenness of the Kingdom of Bahrain to cooperate with the mechanisms of the United Nations, including the Universal Periodic Review, in view of its role in offering countries an opportunity to develop their local mechanisms related to human rights in a continued periodic manner.
He stressed that the government of Bahrain relied on community partnerships to prepare this report, similar to its approach to preparing previous reports, through consulting with official and civic parties, whereby the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held last month two national consultation sessions at the ministry to discuss the views of official and civic parties related to the report.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary also announced the launch of the report on a website, exclusively on the implemention of the recommendations of the Universal Periodic Review
Noteworthy is that countries presenting voluntary reports on the status of implementing the recommendations does not oblige them to accept new ones.
It is also considered one of the best international practices in the field of human rights, which countries accept on a voluntary basis, to showcase cooperation with the United Nations mechanisms and their commitment to implementing the recommendations of the Universal Periodic Review.
