Bahraini shura chairman urges electorates' participation

Shura Council's Chairman Ali bin Saleh Al-Saleh urged all Bahraini citizens - men, women, young and old - to participate in the upcoming parliamentary and municipal elections.
He said that elections provide the greatest opportunity to practice democracy in its loftiest form which reflects the healthy condition of our democracy and keenness on participation in this activity which is another fete experienced in the Kingdom through which more national development and progress can be accomplished.
Al-Saleh told Bahrain News Agency (BNA) that one of the key political accomplishments in the preceding period was the ratification of the constitutional amendments by HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa which he described as a new start under the democratization and reform project initiated by HM the King.
He said that democracy has evolved around the work of the legislature in line with the consensual views and recommendations of the National Consensus Dialogue. He added that the constitutional amendments included the limiting of the Shura Council's powers in terms of legislation and boosted its role in the enactment of laws which is an accomplishment that led to further boosting the quality of legislation in cooperation and coordination with the Council of Representatives.
