His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s humanitarian efforts and constant support to the Palestinians have been praised by the Palestinian Ambassador to Bahrain Taha Abdulqader.
The Ambassador said that HM the King has always done his utmost to keep Arab and Islamic countries’ focus on supporting the Palestinians in order to help them achieve their aspirations, and issued directives to the official sides in the kingdom to support the Palestinian issue on all occasions and at all levels.
He was speaking during a cultural event organised by the Bahrain Medical Society (BMS), in cooperation with the Palestinian Embassy here, in support of the Palestinian cause.
Poets from Bahrain and members of the Palestinian community attended.
In a statement to the Bahrain News Agency (BNA), the Ambassador said that Bahrain had responded quickly and supported the Palestinians in Gaza, citing the two relief aid shipments delivered by the Royal Charity Organisation (RCO), under the leadership of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and the fund-raiser campaign in which HM the King had donated BD 5m.
He also said lauded the Bahrain people’s support to the victims of the Israeli aggression on Gaza through charity and humanitarian societies and organsiations.
He also revealed that Bahrain had pledged $150,000 (BD56,600) to fly 100 injured people from Gaza to Egypt for treatment.
Bahrain Medical Society (BMS), the Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) and the Red Crescent Societies of Palestine and Egypt will all sign an agreement to this effect on Tuesday in Cairo.
BMS president Dr Mohammed Al Rafea said the event aimed to mobilize support to the Palestinian people.
"We are proud of HM the King’s directives to support brotherly and friendly countries," he said, noting that Bahrain was among the first countries to deliver 80-tonne relief aid to the war-torn Gaza.
