
Interior Minister Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa today deputised Public Security Chief Major-General Tariq Hassan Al-Hassan to open the first anti-narcotics conference.
The three-day event is being held at Shaikh Abdulaziz Hall, Bahrain University, under the theme "Drugs and Security Challenges – International Control of Precursors and Essential Chemicals".
The Anti-Narcotics Directorate, an affiliate of the General Directorate for Criminal Investigation and Forensic Evidence is holding the international conference in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
Major-General Tariq Hassan Al-Hassan paid tribute to the Interior Minister for his keenness on consolidating security and protecting youth from the scourge of drugs which result in delinquent behaviours and cause social and economic losses.
He credited all the parties which contributed to the organisation of the conference, particularly the UN Council on Anti-narcotics and chemical precursors, General Directorate for Criminal Investigation and Forensic Evidence and the University of Bahrain.
General Directorate for Criminal Investigation and Forensic Evidence director-general Brigadier Abdulrahman Saleh Sinan also addressed the opening session, warning the alarming increase in demand on chemical precursors.
Public Security Chief Major-General Tariq Hassan Al-Hassan then opened an exhibition on the sidelines of the first anti-narcotics conference. Officials in charge of the anti-drug campaign "TOGETHER" also outlined programmes and events undertaken to combat the scourge of narcotics.
