Saeed Mohammed al-Faihani
New York - BNA

The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)’s Advisory Committee has appointed its Bahraini member Saeed Mohammed Al-Faihani at its Working Group on Communications, a panel mandated to examine confidential human rights violations in UN member states.
The Working Group on Communications, composed of five members of the Human Rights Council Advisory Committee, examines the communications received under the complaint procedure with a view to deciding on their admissibility and assessing the merits of the allegations of violations, including whether a communication, alone or in combination with other, appears to reveal a pattern of gross and reliably attested violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
Al-Faihani extended sincere thanks and gratitude to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the Government of Bahrain for paving the way for Bahrainis to join international organisations and hold higher prestigious human rights positions.
He also thanked other members of the UNHRC’s Advisory Committee for their support, noting that that his election to the post is a vote of confidence in the Bahraini competencies’ ability, human rights experience, neutrality and adherence of UN standards.
Al-Faihani has replaced another member at the Working Group for Communications for the past year, and his three-year term as member of the Advisory Committee will expire next year. He does not intend to renew his membership for personal reasons.
The Working Group on Communications, comprising Saeed Mohammed Al-Faihani (Bahrain), includes Mario L. Coriolano ( Argentina), Katharina Pabel (Austria), Mikhail Lebedev (Russia) and Imeru Tamrat Yigezu (Ethiopia), will convenein Geneva from August 18th to 22nd .
Meanwhile, the Human Rights Council Advisory Committee also appointed Saeed Al-Faihani to chair the team entrusted with the drafting of final reports on promoting human rights through sport and the Olympic ideal.
Al-Faihani was honoured in recognition of the tremendous efforts he has exerted as Advisory Committee member.
