General Director of Central Governorate Police Directorate, Brigadier Shamsan Abdullah Al Buainain highlighted on Saturday that his department is working hard to reduce crime rates, protect human rights and enhance social bonds between policemen and community members.
It is also dedicated to enhance services and social and legal awareness in accordance to plans and strategies to build comprehensive and secure society. He said that the crimes in the Central Governorate ranges from thefts, bounce cheques, physical attacks and misunderstanding between neighbours.
He continued that the department’s duties are all focus in protecting security and general order in accordance to the law, including deployment of police patrols as crime prevention methods. The Central Governorate has 90 blocks and it is among highly populated districts of 300,000 citizens and residents, while it has a number of major factories and education institutions.
He said that the General Directorate received 17505 cases in 2013, while hailing the role of community police in solving marital issues as community policemen visit families with different disputes to solve issues between them before they become as lawsuits. "Only marital cases that reach dead end as both side refuse to drop charges are referred to the Public Prosecution," he explained.
The Governorate has around 70 public and private schools that required regulation of traffic flow, hence a policeman has been deployed at each primary school. In regards of industrial areas such as Sitra, Maameer and Salmabad industrial areas, the community police visit those early to inspect safety and security conditions in cooperation with concerned bodies such as the civil defence and municipality.
He said that the district has many markets and commercial roads that witness youth gatherings at late hours of the night, which disturb the residents, hence police patrols are deployed at those areas in cooperation with Traffic police.
About the traditional market that was rebuilt and opened recently, the General Directorate has suggested through the Central Governorate Coordination Council to establish a committee that is chaired by the General Directorate to handle security and safety of the market in association with concerned bodies such as the Municipality.
