Bahraini Foreign Minister Sheikh Khaled Al-Khalifa said terrorist groups should be confronted militarily, financially and ideologically, adding that Manama would host an international conference on terrorism in November.
Addressing a UN Security Council (UNSC) meeting on Iraq, late on Friday, Sheikh Khaled said the military operations in Iraq were essential to fight the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
He said Bahrain has always contributed to the fight against terrorism. "Time has come for regional countries to fight these terrorist groups." He said Muslim scholars must not hesitate in highlighting the danger of ISIL. He commended condemnation of Muslim scholar authorities of ISIL's massacres in Iraq and Syria.
Sheikh Khaled said Bahrain would host an international conference in the first week of November to explore a work plan to combat the funding of the terrorist groups.
He said terrorist groups in the Middle East "such as Hezbollah were still terrorizing people. It is thus important to adopt a holistic approach to defeat terrorists in an effective manner." Qatari Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Attiyah, for his part, said the Iraqi people's participation in the political process was important for the security and stability of their country.
He said the international community's fight against terrorism would not be achieved without the political will, addressing the financial resources and not linking terrorism with any faith.
The foreign minister of Oman and United Arab Emirates (UAE), respectively Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nuhayyan, condemned all forms of terrorism.
The two top diplomats also said they would contribute to ultimately eradicate terrorism.
