Hanan Ashrawi, member of the Palestine Liberation Organization's Executive Committee, has appealed to the United Nations Security Council to coerce Israel halt attacks on Palestinian territories.
"Such operations of organized racial liquidation led by the radical Israeli Government with assistance of settlers will not be allowed to continue and the international community must break its shameful silence .. and face the occupation," Ashrawi said in a statement.
Ashrawi's words came amid escalatory violence and tension in the occupied territories where nine Palestinians died early today, followed with rocket attacks on southern Israel. Tension has soared between the Israelis and Palestinians following recent killing of three Israeli teens and a young Palestinian later on.
The Palestinian official called for collective international action "to withdraw the settlers and dismantle the Israeli settlements and end the occupation, as the sole avenue to ensure stability and security in the whole region."
