Arming the opposition Free Syrian Army (FSA) is the only way to defeat terrorism, a top Syrian opposition figure said Saturday.
"The Western-Arab coalition cannot do its task if it only fights ISIL and did not get rid of Bashar Al-Assad's regime which is the cause of terrorism," Hadi Bahra, Syrian National Council chief, said during a meeting with opposition's general authority in Istanbul.
Therefore, he added, arming and backing the FSA was the sole way to fighting terrorism.
"Any military action cannot achieve its objectives unless it is coupled with a comprehensive political solution honoring aspirations of the Syrian people, and secures stability in Syria, Iraq and the whole region," he said.
Bahra called for the creation of buffer zones to contain the large numbers of Syrian refugees.
