Abu Dhabi - Arab Today

The unification of the UAE Armed Forces 41 years ago reflected a strong and deep belief in unity and shared destiny, as well as a forward-looking outlook and deep insight into future challenges, the UAE Federal National Council, FNC, said on Friday.

The historic decision made by the Federal Supreme Council, headed by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, on 6th May, 1976 to unify the armed forces, launched an era of hard work aimed at building Emirati forces that were effective and capable of safeguarding national security, stability and achievements, coupled with strong beliefs and a readiness to defend the country at any time, the legislative body said in a statement issued on the 41st anniversary of the Unification of the UAE Armed Forces, celebrated very year on 6th May.

"The UAE Armed forces have proved to be highly professional in protecting the security and stability of fraternal countries, countering dangers imposed by certain situations, as well as taking part in international peacekeeping missions, while also providing humanitarian assistance in regions hit by conflicts and natural disasters across the world," the FNC noted.

The FNC greeted President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates and thanked them for their support in the development of the UAE Armed Forces.

The FNC also paid a tribute to Emirati martyrs who fell in the line of duty for their country and highlighted their sacrifices and heroism
