The Arab League has warned against the worsening situation in Iraq, saying it is following with deep concern the developments of the current situation there, and was in contact with the various parties to follow up the situation.
Arab League Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs Ambassador Fadhil Jawad said in remarks today that concerns raised over the division of Iraq are not true," stressing that all what is being said in this context are just media exaggerations about what is happening in Iraq.
He added that Iraq is the Arab League's founding state and will maintain its sovereignty and there will be no division. However, he recognized the existence of major problems there in the presence of what is known in the media as Daash organization and its declaration of the Caliphate state in the absence of time as he put it.
He emphasized that there is a current initiative by the Iraqi government, noting that the Iraqi army re-organize itself and is receiving a very large popular and tribal support in Iraq.
He pointed out that the Arab League is monitoring the situation in Iraq very closely in light of the declaration by the organization of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISSL) of Islamic Caliphate State, which it as a cover up for those who support and fund for this organization.
He pointed to the existence of concerted regional and international coherence, especially from neighboring countries such as Saudi Arabia and Iran and the from the European Union, Russia and the United States to follow up on the situation in Iraq in order to fight terrorism, which threatens the entire region, stressing that the terrorist group does not exclude any Arab state of its practices.
