Arab League (AL) Secretary General Nabil el Araby on Wednesday called on Arab mass media outlets to handle regional challenges and crises and respond to Arab peoples' needs.
He made the remarks during the 47th session of Arab information ministers council held under Bahrain's chairmanship in Cairo.
Speaking at the opening session, the AL chief said the current conditions in the region prompt Arab media to abide by strict professionalism, objectivity, credibility and neutrality and differentiate between freedom of expression and violation of religions and sanctuaries as well as avoiding talking about any material that endangers national security and safety of regional States.
Arab media should seek to highlight the importance of dialogue and handle all topics with full objectivity as well as moving away from any themes that incite violence and sectarianism, he added.
He called for strengthening Arab joint action at all levels to overcome challenges, notably terroris that threatens national security and safety of Arab States.
He urged taking all necessary measures to deal with intellectual, cognitive and cultural deterioration suffered by many Arab youth who fell a prey to extremist and destructive ideologies propagated by terrorist groups like Daesh and Al Qaed.
The Arab media has to support the Palestinian cause through reminding Western media about the history of the Palestinian cause, the suffering of Palestinian refugees and prisoners in Israeli jails as well as shedding light on Arab States' supportive stances towards the Palestinian people, El Araby stressed.
