Algerian multi-sectoral coordination meeting against road accident shortly

Transport Minister Amar Ghoul announced Thursday the holding, shortly, of a coordination meeting bringing together several sectors so that to examine the causes of the increase in road accidents in Algeria and to take the necessary measures to limit the extent of this phenomenon.  
This meeting will bring together officials and experts from Ministries of Transport, Interior and Local Authorities, Public Works and National Defence as well as the services of the National Gendarmerie and Police, said the minister on the sidelines of a plenary session devoted to oral question at the Council of the Nation.
Repressive measures will be taken at the end of this meeting to better fight against road accidents which have increased in a “terrifying way,” lamented the minister. Hence the need to coordinate between all the concerned sectors, he added.
A total of 42,864 accidents were recorded in 2013 causing 4,540 deaths and 58,269 injured, ranking Algeria among the first countries in the world with the highest number of road accidents.
Material and financial losses are estimated at more than DZD100 billion per year.
