People's National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament) opened Tuesday the autumn session 2014 under the chairmanship of Speaker Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa. The opening ceremony was attended by the speaker of the Council of the Nation (Upper House), Abdelkader Bensalah, and Government members.
The opening of the session comes in line with Article 118 of the Constitution and Article 5 of the organic law, defining the organization and work of the People's National Assembly and the Council of the Nation, as well as relations between the two houses of Parliament and Government.
In an opening address, Ould Khelifa said the Lower House will carry on its work to boost dialogue and consultation with all Parliamentary groups, be they from the majority or the opposition, and to give a fresh impetus to Parliamentary diplomacy regarding bilateral and multilateral relations.
