
Algerian army said Monday it arrested 20 gunmen coming from the southern borders with Niger who were attempting to infiltrate into the Algerian territories from the Teneriri area.
Army forces monitoring the borders have captured 20 persons riding two vehicles and six motor bikes, the Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The arrestees include 12 Sudanese and eight Chadians, it added.
The Algerian army had killed five armed men and arrested seven others in two separate operations at the borders with Niger earlier this month.
Meanwhile, Deputy Defense Minister and Army Chief of Staff Gen. Qayed Saleh called on servicemen to be vigilent to confront terrorism and armed groups.
Saleh urged the armed forces to sacrifice their souls for their country in a bid to eliminate all forms of terrorism.
