
A total of 3,622 mines dating from the colonial era was discovered and destroyed by the Algerian army in October, an official source said Wednesday.
As part of the mine-clearing operation, the Army units destroyed 370 antipersonnel mines and 436 anti-group mines in the 2nd Military Region, in addition to 2,725 antipersonnel mines, 82 anti-group mines and 9 flare mines in the 5th Military Region, Algeria Press Service reported.
Up to 31 October 2014, the Army units discovered and destroyed a total of 751,474 mines, including 633,134 antipersonnel mines, 113,724 anti-group mines and 4,616 flare mines, the source added.
