Algeria plays a “key” role for the stability of the North African region, said Tuesday evening in Madrid Spanish Foreign Affairs Minister José Manuel Garcia Margallo.
“Algeria plays a key role in favour of stability in the North African region, just as Spain, member of the European Union, whose role is important in the South of the continent (European),” José Manuel Garcia Margallo told the press at the end of his talks with his Algerian counterpart Ramtane Lamamra.
“Algeria is properly fulfilling its role in North Africa, while Spain is doing the same in the South of Europe hence the need to coordinate the two countries’ efforts,” said Spanish minister following his talks with Lamamra on the eve of the ministerial conference of the member States of the 5+5 Dialogue, to be held Wednesday in Spain under the theme of stability and development in Libya.
The Spanish minister also dubbed “very cordial” his talks with Lamamra, focusing on the “very good” bilateral relations.
In addition to the situation in this region (North Africa) where Algeria and Spain are “combining their efforts to make peace and stability,” the two ministers broached the situation in Libya, according to José Manuel Garcia Margallo.
These talks allowed the two sides to “deepen” the views of the two countries, said Lamamra, particularly on the situation in Libya, underlining that he explained to his Spanish counterpart all what Algeria is doing, bilaterally and with its neighbouring countries, in favour of Libya.
