Algeria confirmed its "important" position as regional and international player, in issues of mediation and conflict resolution, the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
"Due to its thoughtful and responsible approach as well as the constructive role of mediator between the parties partaking in (Malian dialogue), the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria confirms its position of regional and international major player in mediation issues and conflicts resolution," the Serbian Foreign Ministry stated in a communiqué.
The Republic of Serbia welcomes, in this sense, the "beginning of the second stage of inter-Malian inclusive dialogue in order to reach a comprehensive resolution of the conflict" and congratulates the Republic of Mali on "the successful closing of the first stage of dialogue and the signing of the Roadmap negotiations."
"The Serbian Foreign Ministry, which strongly supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Mali and the efforts made by Algeria, the United Nations, the African Union and ECOWAS to achieve an inclusive resolution of the conflict, remains optimistic about the continuation of the inter-Malian dialogue," the same source added.
Furthermore, the Republic of Serbia expressed "satisfaction with the release of two Algerian hostages on August 30, and expressed sincere regret over the death of consul Boualem Saies and the murder of diplomat Tahar Touati who were both in a group of seven Algerian diplomats held hostages since April 2012."
Serbia "resolutely rejects terrorism as a mean of achieving political, ethnic or religious goals or resolving outstanding issues" and considers "sustainable solutions to the conflict in Mali must be found as part of the current dialogue process," the same source said.
