Omran al-Zoubi
Damascus - SANA

Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi expressed astonishment over the participation of terrorism-supporting countries such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey in conferences for combating terrorism.
In an interview with Lebanese al-Manar TV channel on Monday , al-Zoubi said that these countries have been the most prominent backers of terrorism, and it is illogical that a terrorist becomes a counterterrorism-fighter, just as it’s illogical for a thief or a criminal to want to combat corruption and crime.
Al-Zoubi added that the current discourse about counterterrorism tackles the international resolution no. 2170 selectively, and it comically proposes the existence of “moderate opposition” in Syria, while at the same time it excludes Iran, which is one of the most important stability factors in the region, as well as the strong states of Russia and China from participating.
The Minister clarified that the objective of undermining the Syrian state is still proposed by some sides despite the fact that it’s too late for clinging on to such a goal thanks to the steadfastness of the Syrian national, popular, military, security, and political structure.
The U.S. administration implicitly acknowledges that no achievements could be done in the war on terrorism unless the alliance is built upon the serious engagement of all states of the region in countering terrorism, and at least recognizing the role of the Syrian state in that, and the importance that Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia complying with that through action, not political and media rhetoric, the Minister added.
He pointed out that Syria approves of resolution no. 2170 and that it has been implementing it on the ground even before it was issued, as it confronts terrorism, paying high prices for that, and Iraq is doing so as well.
Al-Zoubi clarified that what pushed the U.S. to declare that it will fight the terrorism of ISIS is not its good intentions towards peoples of the region, but because the terrorist organization backed by Arab and regional countries has overstepped the limits drawn for it, threatening Washington’s interests.
The Information Minister stressed that no communications is taking place with the U.S. regarding counterterrorism, and the Syrian leadership’s stance is unequivocal; we are involved in counterterrorism and Syria is the first to carry it out it in the region, and we do not beg of any side to become a partner.
