Al Ain Zoo shares its experience with international organisations
AL AIN - Arab Today

Al Ain Zoo has succeeded in providing a database of over 3800 animals from 200 species reflecting one of its international commitments.

The database includes mammals, birds and reptiles, whereas nearly 26 percent of these are endangered species. This was a success since Al Ain Zoo joined the Zoological Information Management System, ZIMS, which is the only global programme used to maintain information on animals around the world.

Al Ain Zoo contributes in providing data and periodic updates about endangered species to the coordinators of reproductive books and global breeding programmes as part of its contribution to the global conservation and breeding efforts of endangered species in zoos.

This information enables zoos and relevant organisations to identify animal care and planning for its future, thanks to the possibility of accurately assessing the genetic diversity of more than three million animals under more than 10,000 different species.

Omar Al Blooshi, Director of Marketing and Communication confirmed that the zoo registration system is one of the most advanced registration systems in the field of animal information. It is connected to a network of international organizations and authorities that work within strategies and scientific plans for breeding endangered animals and a reliable source.

He added, "The animals registration system at the Zoo has evolved in many stages since the seventies and improved periodically over the years."
