Abu Dhabi Police to use 17 radar devices powered by solar energy

The Abu Dhabi Police will begin using some 17 radar devices powered by solar energy on the two roads from Maha Forest to Ashoush, and from Al Sudaira Tunnel to Al Faqa Intersection, beginning Tuesday, 26th September.

Brigadier Ali Khalfan Al Dhaheri, Director of the Central Operations Sector at the Abu Dhabi Police, said that the use of the radar devices are part of the efforts by Abu Dhabi Police to improve local traffic safety, as well as to reduce the rates of traffic accidents and deaths on roads, and to prioritise their efforts to improve road safety.

He added that the new radar devices were set up to assist in reducing vehicle speeds and decrease the rate of accidents.

Al Dhaheri stressed that the new radar devices have the required technical capacities to accurately monitor violations on both sides of the road, through monitoring devices that use lasers to calculate the space between vehicles.

Brigadier Khalifa Mohammed Al Khaili, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department of Abu Dhabi Police, said that the identified speed limit for light vehicles traveling on the targeted roads is 80 km/hr and the radar devices will be set to catch those traveling faster than 101 km/hr or faster, while the identified speed limit for heavy vehicles is 80 km/hr and the radar devices will be set to identify those traveling 81 km/hr or faster.

He underlined the importance of monitoring devices, such as radar, placed on roads to monitor violations and improve the levels of traffic safety to reduce exceeding speed limits that endanger the lives of road users.

Al Khailli also urged drivers to adhere to speed limits and leave a reasonable space between vehicles. He further highlighted the importance of community participation to promote the efforts to improve traffic safety.
