Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday urged the international community to immediately recognize an independent Palestinian state on 1967 borders.
His remarks were made in an interview with the official Palestine Satellite Television. "It is time now for a political solution for the Palestinian cause and not waste any more time," he said.
Abbas unveiled that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has previously accepted before him to establish the state of Palestine on the territories Israel occupied in 1967.
"The only thing remained after Netanyahu accepted the establishment of the state of Palestine was the negotiators' role to draw the borders and each side knows the territory of its state, " said Abbas.
"But this didn't happen due to the Israeli stubbornness," he said, adding that "we want definitely that each state recognizes the borders of the other, but Israel is the only state that its borders are unknown."
Abbas also said that a Palestinian delegation chaired by chief negotiator Saeb Erekat will head to the United States next week to meet with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry. "The delegation will ask one single question: Is there a solution or not?" said Abbas.
Abbas said that the Palestinians will wait for one month to recognize an independent Palestinian state with known borders, otherwise "we don't want to wait for another 20 years."
"I believe that enough is enough and if Israel refused, I have what to say and what to do then," said Abbas, who declined to unveil what are his choices, but said "certainly I will consult with Arab and international friends and parties."
Earlier on Thursday, Ahmed Majdalani, a member in the PLO ( Palestine Liberation Organization) executive committee, said that the PLO has prepared a plan, which aims at gathering large international consensus to find a permanent political solution to the Palestinian cause.
"This solution is based on drawing the borders of the independent Palestinian state and sets up a timetable for ending the Israeli military occupation of the Palestinian territories, which started in 1967," he said.
