Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced Tuesday that a deal had been reached with Israel to halt assault on the Gaza Strip.
In a speech in Ramallah, Abbas said: "We announce the Palestinian leadership's agreement to Egypt's call for a comprehensive and lasting truce beginning at 7:00 pm (1600 GMT) today."
Also, Abbas called on the United Nations and the international community to provide materials needed for reconstruction of the strip.
"We should stand together to rebuild our homeland, end the occupation and establish the independent state of Palestine on 1967 borders," he added in a televised address.
The Palestinian leader concluded his speech with thanks to Cairo over efforts exerted to reach the deal.
