Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas sent a cable of greetings to Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi on the occasion marking the 52nd anniversary of the September 26 Revolution.
In the cable, Abbas appreciated Yemen's supportive stance to Palestinian people.
The September 26 Revolution started in 1962 against the Mutawakkilite Kingdom of Yemen, formed in 1918 and known colloquially as “the Imamate.”
A war erupted between supporters of the Imamate, sometimes referred to as royalists, and those who sought a republican system of governance. The war lasted until 1970, when republican forces took control of the country.
