ESMA
Dubai - Arab Today

The Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology, ESMA, has confirmed that 99 percent of fuel metres in the UAE's petrol stations are faultless in reading and measurement, and the percentage of non-conforming fuel metres at state-level fuel supply stations has dropped to one percent.

According to Abdulla Abdul Qader Al Maeeni, Director-General of ESMA, the authority is continuously conducting field visits in cooperation with its strategic partners in the local authorities concerned to state-owned gas stations to verify the accuracy of the meter readings.

The total number of fuel metres inspected in the first half of 2017 was 5,791 metres, while the audit revealed that the counters of non-conforming only 38 metres, a decent ratio compared to the same period last year, which saw 65 counter-matched, out of a total of 6,590 checked fuel metres, he added.

Al Maeeni went on to say that implementing these regular check-ups has achieved economic savings of AED13 million last year alone.

"The UAE is moving steadily towards enhancing the quality of life for citizens, residents and visitors," he added, while praising the role played by local authorities in each of the Emirates for facilitating these inspections and supporting the activities of ESMA.
