The Abu Dhabi Police's traffic and patrols department has recorded 2,138 violations of jumping traffic lights during the past six months. "These violations resulted in two deaths, caused severe injuries to one and moderate ones to 33," said Colonel Hamad Al Ameri, director of the capital's traffic department. "Jumping traffic lights is dealt with severely. Motorists could have their vehicles impounded for 15 days, in addition to a fine of Dh800 and eight black points added to their driving licence," he added. Col. Al Ameri said motorists should not speed up when nearing traffic lights turning yellow. Instead, they should slow down and stop.
